Sump Pump Installation Options
These kinds of pumps are air-cooled, more affordable, and are not susceptible to the same kind of damage as their submersible pump counterparts. They also last up to three times longer than submersible pumps.
Submersible pumps work within the pit below your basement leaving you plenty of free space for storage and use. They keep quiet and are typically more powerful, taking out water faster than pedestal units.
Most pumps come with 1/2, 1/3, or 1/4 horsepower. At 1/2 horsepower, the pump is able to remove roughly 3,000 gallons of water per hour. How much horsepower you need depends on your basement’s needs.
Cast Iron vs. Thermoplastic
Cast iron pumps are typically ten times stronger than thermoplastic, while thermoplastic ones are resistant to corrosion. Both options can last between five and seven years with routine maintenance.
